The peripheral vascular disease is a condition characterized by damage to or blockage in the peripheral blood vessels. This disease may result in the form of blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis, inflammation, or narrowing and blockage of the blood vessels. In case the peripheral vascular disease affects only the arteries, the condition is known as PAD. PAD is also considered one of the most serious complications in patients with diabetes. It is characterized by narrowed arteries due to the accumulation of plaques (composed of fat, cholesterol, and fibrous tissue) that results in reduced blood flow to the brain, organs, and limbs, especially the legs. PAD is known to increase the risk of stroke and heart attack by up to six times. The devices used for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease include stents, balloon catheters, CTO, atherectomy devices, venacava filters, and grafts. According to the peripheral vascular devices market insight, the global peripheral vascular devices market will grow at a CAGR of 7.29% over the period 2014-2019.
The global peripheral vascular devices market is divided into six segments: peripheral vascular stents, PTA balloon catheters, aortic stent grafts, atherectomy devices, embolic protection devices, and others (synthetic surgical grafts, chronic total occlusion devices, inferior vena cava filters, and PTA guidewires).
