Styrene, also known as vinylbenzene, phenylethane, and ethenylbenzene, is an organic compound that is colorless, flammable, water insoluble, and oily. It evaporates easily and has a sweet odor. It has a high tendency to undergo polymerization and copolymerization. Styrene, primarily prepared from dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene, is a derivative of benzene. Commercially styrene is produced as a co-product in the production of propylene oxide through the POSM process. Styrene is found naturally in various foods and plants and also in coal tar. It is a precursor of polymers and copolymers, such as polystyrene, EPS, ABS, SBR, UPR, and others, which are used in a wide range of applications encompassing areas such as construction, packaging, automobile, electrical and electronics, and consumer goods.
TechNavio's analysts forecast the Global Styrene market to grow at a CAGR of 4.82 percent over the period 2014-2019.
The Global Styrene market is divided into the following segments based on derivatives: Polystyrene, EPS, ABS, SBR, UPR, Thermoplastic Elastomers, and Others.
