According to the analysts at Technavio, the global market for automotive parental control system (PCS) will grow at a respectable CAGR of over 11% by 2020. The associated safety factors accompanying PCS will augment its sales during the forecast period. PCS use has the additional effect of promoting safer driving habits among teenagers, particularly the use of seat belts. Though the use of seatbelts has been a new addition to the suite of systems under the aegis of PCS, teenagers who had PCS installed in their vehicles have been found to be twice as vigilant about safer driving than their non-PCS counterparts. According to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, teenagers with PCS installed in their cars have been found to take fewer driving risks and are less prone to road accidents.
The use of PCS for AVT and connected car technologies will be a major factor leading to the growth of this market during the forecast period. AVT and connected car technologies when used in conjunction, can enhance the performance of PCS. Consequently, it can be expected that PCS may cease to exist as a standalone offering or a component of automotive device assistants (ADA) in the near future. Instead, it is envisaged to be assimilated into the larger set of functionalities that are slated to be made available through the AVT and CCT platforms.
